Thank you for the warm welcome!

My car is not as good looking as yours; it's been a daily driver since 1984 and is now the world's worst looking autocross car.

But fun to drive!

Peter you have a nice E12 528i. Have any engine modification? I really know what you mean about fun to drive. Please share your experience on the track driving. Some of us love to do so but it's just the beginning.

Engine is low compression M30B34 (3400 cc 8:1) from US E28 535i. Suspension is coilover; 550 lbs/inch front springs, 300lbs/inch rear. Koni 8610-1437Race strut inserts front, Bilstein Sports rear. Megasquirt fuel injection. Differential rebuilt to 65 ftlbs torque.

Only one track event at Virginia International Raceway, but many many Autocross events.

A warm welcome, its great to see that E12s are still roaming around the track. Koni + Bilstein is a combination I haven't seen yet, wish I could see the real ride.

Nice video by the way, I'm hoping to see more E12 E21 E28 on track here in Thailand but I think its gonna take a while. BTW how's the 550 / 300 combination on bumpy roads, judging from the vdo seems like it may not be too stiff for daily use.

Great drive, Peter. You didn't hit any pin at all. My opinion is your soft modification suspension is ok for Autocorss but good handling for daily use.

Your E12 is not bad at all. It looks agressive, raw and has good shape.

Tks for sharing us the great video and info hope it will not last.

Nice modification from fantastic engine to customed suspension. We used to have a gymcana drive like your autocross but at the moment drifting is more favorite amoung Jap cars. How about steering modification for more responsive? CK asks us to set up small autocross for E12 soon.

I would like to change to steering rack but my class (Street Prepared) does not allow it. We say that being married is like SCCA Autocross rules: "If she (wife) doesn't say you can do it, you cannot do it"

Really the e12 is not bad. E30 is 4 turns and e12 is 3.5 turns, so they are not bad. I drove a well prepared E30 at SCCA divisionals and it was a real busy to steer compared to e12.

Alignment helps - 1.5mm toe-out will help turn the car.

I hope you can autocross - let me know if I can help with information!

No video from Sunday (winds were 40mph right before my heat; the blowing sand sent video people home)

Cameron stayed behind and took awesome photos all day including the previous mentioned E21. I'm in frames 20 and 24 but if you have time, you should look at all of them

http://hr404.smugmug.com/gallery/8657123_tYs7h#P-24-12

I'm upgrading front and rear springs (600lb front 400lb rear) this weekend. The rear body roll is so bad I bottomed the shocks out at the finish.

Finished 30th out of 88 cars; so OK but not great.

What a fantastic autocross for you gus (for us too). It seems that you have a Navy base somewherelse to be a track. Next event you'll push yourself to the fore front for sure. So balancing of power, transmission and suspension must be the key success factors for the winner. Incrasing K number will keep front and rear wheels tracktion but at what level? How about LSD upgrading? I heard about the M535i close ratio gears excellence. The lighter curb weight comes in to play with better agility?

Anyway, Peter you've done a great job for E12 renow. Furthermore, you bring us an inspiration to set up E12 autocross soon in Thailand. Lucky on you for the next event.

Here's post from firstfives.org after I fitted the larger 16x9 wheels for last weekend's event:

So size is important; at least tire size in autocross.
Finished best I have have. Small event finished 7 of 42 in raw time and 9th in PAX.
Not sure if results link will work but here it is.

http://www.odr-scca.org/index2.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_view&gid=86&Itemid=29

My codriver (national level guy who's car i'm sponsoring and tuning) did 4th in raw, 3rd in pax. I was blown away watching how quickly he drove my car but not so much when my dreaded brake lockup returned and he badly flat-spotted RF tire.

A little rubbing in the rear; need 50# higher spring rates. This new tire (265-45-16) is also a little tall, so it rubbed on the front fender liner and the metal behind it. Removal and bashing with big maul seems to help.  :?

Note these tires are 4-5 years old; I can't imagine what new ones would feel like.

I suspect I have some binding going on between radius rod washers and tow hooks (the subframe has been bashed a few times). I've got a NOS subframe to install.
